The GHS Academic Team is comprised of students from each grade level.  The team competes in various competitions throughout the year.  These competitions are comprised of questions from all subject areas. 

During the past few years, the GHS Academic Team has participated in meets held at Tennessee State University and Tennessee Tech University, as well as Monterey, Upperman, Cookeville, Jackson County, Lincoln County, and MLK high schools.

During the 2008-2009 school year, the GHS team participated in the Quizbusters tournament that was hosted and televised by the CW channel 58 out of Nashville.  The GHS team made it to the quarterfinal round, earning a top 8 finish.

Along with the Tennessee Credit Union, the GHS Academic Team sponsors the Spring Forward Middle School Academic Challenge each spring.  This is a tournament open to any middle school team to compete.

Each semester the team participates in the Knowledge Master Open.  This is a computer-based competition that ranks our team against other teams from throughout the state and across the nation.  In the spring of 2007, we ranked 7th out of the 29 teams from the state of Tennessee.

We also hold an event each semester that spotlights out team in front of the student body in a competition against members of the GHS faculty.  This event proves to be a great educational experience for the student body, as well as our team members.

In 2008, GHS team captain Rachel Hawkins was selected to the All-State Academic Team for the 2007-2008 season, becoming the first person from GHS to earn this honor.
